• U.S. Rep. Howard Coble, R-6th District, has much more in his campaign coffers than Democratic rival Tony Foriest.

• Jim Blaine, state Senate leader Phil Berger’s chief of staff, is leaving to consult with the Senate Republican Caucus and help other Republican lawmakers in the fall election campaign.

• Guilford County Sheriff B.J. Barnes will work with the Pat McCrory’s campaign for governor to line up support among the state’s law enforcement community and advise the GOP nominee on law enforcement policies.

• Another member of the Bush family — George P., son of Jeb — was in North Carolina, at a Monday fundraiser for Republican 7th Congressional District nominee David Rouzer.

• A new ad from the Obama campaign has the president posing the election as a choice between Mitt Romney’s “top down” economics and the president’s proposals to boost the middle class.
