• Gov. Bev Perdue suffered some setbacks during the General Assembly’s short session, but one veto that was not overturned was her rejection of the GOP-backed voter ID bill.
• Jonathan Kappler of the NC FreeEnterprise Foundation notes that a political fund connected to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia recently spent $23,000 on mailers for Richard Hudson in his 8th District congressional runoff against Scott Keadle. House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin recently endorsed Hudson.
• WUNC radio interviews the candidates in a little-watched Council of State runoff pitting Republican former House co-speaker Richard Morgan against insurance broker and executive Mike Causey.
• 9th Congressional District candidate Robert Pittinger has put $1.9 million of his own money in his Republican runoff against Jim Pendergraph.
• Add Hayden Rogers, Democratic nominee for the 11th Congressional District, to the list of high-profile political candidates who will not attend the Democratic National Convention and will not endorse President Obama’s re-election bid.
