Left: Temporary funding is bad except when it’s good

In a statement released yesterday, the Director of the NC Budget and Tax Center (BTC), a project of the left-wing NC Justice Center, objected to the House education budget proposal to use temporary state funds to pay for fixed expenditures.

Yet, the BTC recently published a study that refused to criticize the use of temporary federal (stimulus and EduJobs) funds to “intentionally…supplant state General Fund appropriations.”

Apparently, when President Obama and congressional Democrats do it, it is to “reduce the impact of the business cycle on the classroom and educational experience.”  When NC House Republicans do it, it is “at best a temporary fix, one that is neither sustainable nor adequate in its provision of the certainty and stability necessary to North Carolina’s economic recovery.”  Curious.

By the way, I didn’t like it then.  I don’t like it now.
