Like some kind of weirdo, I enjoy the national parks, and am happy that, for example, the Grand Canyon is a wilderness area, undotted with houses. And yet, enough is enough. Eventually, we come to a point that what is being preserved is nothing special, but just a tax dodge. It is reminiscent of the time Fred English, speaking before Asheville City Council, said if an applicant for historic designation was worthy of the distinction, he was an endangered species.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced the U.S. Forest Service will dedicate $40.6 million for 27 exceptional land acquisition projects in 15 states that will help safeguard clean water, provide recreational access, preserve wildlife habitat, enhance scenic vistas and protect historic and wilderness areas.
