Believe it or not, the video below is more than funny. Max Borders explains why in his latest Ideas Matter update.

[T]here is so much about this video that’s cool, it’s hard to know where to start. One thing is clear, though: the ad is proof that capitalism rules.

First, this is amazing advertising. The company went on the premise that funny gets viral traction. They decided to go for that instead of sure eyeballs — which must have saved them a bundle when compared with traditional advertising. Couple that with a business model that kills and you’ve got a lot of new customers. I hope Gilette is trembling.

Second, I love the job creator message that starts with: “Alejandra, what were you doing last month?” No economic treatise is more powerful than this couple of throwaway lines that include a smiling, working Alejandra.

Third, as with other brilliant, funny viral videos, Dollarshaveclub.com created value for me and I haven’t signed up yet (yet).

Finally, his pricing structure is going to save a whole lot of people money. I’ve never been able to figure out why something so dinky is so expensive. This entrepreneur thought the same thing and saw opportunity.
