I’m creeped out on relationship-building. That’s the new name for lying to people and flattering them in order to get their money. My first recollections of the concept pertained to dating, but then the phrase was co-opted for a religious context, which was later denounced as inappropriate. Still, I can’t get past the thoughts of feigned mushy intimacy when I hear of “relationship bankers.” Today, we have community policing.

“I think this is going to be a great opportunity for the departments to build personal relationships with the people of Polk County,” said Polk Sheriff Donald J. Hill.

Maybe it just means we’re going to play around, shoot the breeze, and hope something happens – rather than getting busy and going to work.
