I read a newspaper article, and the following is what I got out of it:

Elections are popularity contests, and sometimes what you can’t get by schmoozing, you can get with money. If human people won’t give an unpopular candidate money, maybe he can schmooze a corporate executive to donate for a lot of people. But sometimes schmoozing works better; particularly if you have a network that can increase your schmoozing power exponentially. However, like love, much of voting is just plain blind.
