In our debates over the budget and taxes, most people ask the wrong question, argues Mark Calabria of Cato Institute here. The argument is almost always over who should pay for our rapidly expanding government, with liberals demanding that wealthy people must cough up more money and most conservatives saying that taxes should be broadly based. Calabria sensibly argues that instead we should ask if it makes sense to spend anyone’s money on a great number of federal programs. In most cases, the answer is NO.
