It’s been nearly a year since the subject of banning smoking in parks came up. But nanny-staters can feel secure that kindred spirits on the Raleigh City Council are ready to take another crack at it. From the News & Observer:

The possibility of banning smoking in Raleigh parks was last discussed in April 2008.

At that time, the city attorney’s office determined that Raleigh did not have the power to put such a ban in place, and would need to seek a legislative amendment from the General Assembly.

Thursday’s discussion will likely focus on whether the city should lobby the General Assembly for such an amendment during this year’s session.

Care to guess what the vote will be? Nanny-staters always seek more power to tell others what they can and can’t do.
