A couple is making headline news for desecrating an American flag. They put markings on it and flew it upside-down to signify that the nation was in distress. From my contact with the couple, I surmise the distress has something to do with the CFR and the Illuminati. Anyway, according to some reports, the couple slammed their door on a sheriff deputy’s hand as he attempted to issue a citation for violating flag ordinances. The deputy then broke glass to forcefully enter the home, prompting the man to strike him in the face.

Another flag issue also made headlines recently. As the Fourth of July approached, a fireworks vendor got in trouble. Some alleged it was because the evil City of Asheville said that flying American flags was in violation of their sign ordinance. The City of Asheville responded with state and federal ordinances and photographs showing that one flag had dipped and was dragging, and all flags had been flown unlighted at night and in inclement weather.

While some are trying to rile the masses with flag stories, Asheville has also been home to a robbery/homicide, four teens shooting with intent to kill at a car wash over an alleged drug deal gone bad, and a masked man walking into a basketball game at a community center and firing shots into the the bleachers.

There is one “reality” of symbols and platitudes, and another “reality” where the rubber meets the road.

In the first reality, members of city council weekly pledge allegiance to the flag and the Republic with liberty and justice for all before sitting down to advocate for living wages, rent controls, 50′-wide riverside buffers, subsidized home loans for people who could rent, modified election laws to strengthen their chances of being re-elected, arrangements for the working poor to subsidize better housing and healthcare for the homeless than they can provide for their own families, UN protocols, requirements to articulate the facades and contain the color of houses, specifications dictating where every piece of vegetation in developments will go, demands that wealthy developers provide municipal infrastructure if they want their projects approved, and just about anything to tip the balance of power in favor of their interests.

In the second reality, people pay the costs of compliance for over-regulatory government, and society suffers the lost opportunities trickling down from government’s belief in the broken windows fallacy. Some people even die because government is too busy investing in the pipe dreams of new urbanist gurus to focus on what the flag is supposed to represent.

Weekly, members of city council desecrate the Constitution, ignoring the oath they took to support it when they were seated. They have four police officers to protect them during council meetings. Granted, I am probably not the only person who turns red and clenches my teeth trying to uphold the decorum of the chamber as liberties are cavalierly voted away. The officers have been on-hand for escorting out people provoked to cussing by a government bent on progressively repeating the errors of history.

It is, after all, the role of government to protect its decorum while the poor people shoot each other up. At least, I think it must be . . .Â
