The Associated Press story on the Minnesota Twins’ great doubleheader win yesterday was “Twins Score 32 Points in Doubleheader.” John of Power Line thinks this is unconscionable:

This isn’t Reuters or the AFP, this is the Associated Press. And, while we would never question anyone’s patriotism, I’m not afraid to say it: anyone who doesn’t know that in baseball you score runs, is un-American!

John, who is based in Minneapolis, is precisely on point. Journalism schools are failing us. The editors at AP are failing us. Any copy editor who wrote such a head should be sent back to the minors, one would think. But that’s not the problem. It is in the major leagues of journalism where the worst work is being done. In the minors, the weekly newspapers and small-town dailies, they know what a run is.

UPDATE: AP has now taken the word “points” out of hits headline, but John has a screen capture of the offending headline for posterity.
