So if the North Wilkesboro Town Board was going to turn down a $51 million deal from Community Health Systems to run Wilkes Regional Center anyway, then why did the town put the operating contract up for bid in the first place?

Inquiring minds want to know:

Betty Foster, the wife of former Mayor Steve Foster, said during a public-comment session before the vote that the town could have saved a lot of money if it hadn’t ever gone through the leasing process, which has been going on since May.

“Why was it necessary for the hospital to incur the expense of the consulting firm when this matter was settled when it began?” she asked.

Mayor George Church, who defeated Steve Foster nearly a year ago in a city election dominated by controversy about the hospital, sided with the Fosters.

“To put the same ones back in there that have been doing this for years and years … don’t make sense to me,” Church said.

Well said…..
